Who owns a record after Firmable pushes it to my CRM?
Learn what happens to the record owner field when Firmable creates or updates a company or contact in your CRM.
How record ownership works
When a CRM Agent pushes or syncs records, ownership is handled differently depending on whether the record is new or already exists in your CRM:
-
New record, no match found: Firmable assigns the record based on your User mapping, if it's set up.
If User mapping isn't configured, the record is assigned to whoever connected the CRM integration, not the user who happened to run that specific push.
-
Existing record, a match found: Firmable enriches your mapped fields only. The owner field is never touched, whoever already owns that record in your CRM keeps it, even after enrichment.
Why this matters
If you want new records assigned to specific reps or teams, set up User mapping during your CRM connection. Without it, every new record created by a push defaults to whoever originally connected the integration, which is rarely who you'd want owning it long-term, especially if that person changes roles or leaves.
Frequently asked questions
-
Does enrichment ever change who owns a record? No. Enrichment only updates the fields you've mapped. Ownership is set once, at creation, and never changed by a later sync.
-
Can I control who new records are assigned to? Yes, through User mapping. Set this up under your CRM's field mapping settings so new records are assigned to the correct rep or team, rather than defaulting to the connecting user.
-
What happens if User mapping isn't set up? New records fall back to being owned by whoever connected the CRM integration, regardless of who ran the push that created them.
-
Does this apply to Signal Agent Actions too? Yes, the same rule applies there: a new record created because no match was found follows User mapping if it's set up, or falls back to the connecting user if it isn't. An existing record keeps its current owner either way.
